Players are given the tools to play the game, put in situations where they need to use these tools and given guidance on why to use the skill.

Terms run for 8 sessions and in this time we cover the 4 core skills of the game as set by the FFA (Football Federation Australia) in their National Curriculum.

FFSW Goalkeeper Academy – Ages 9-16

Hardest position on the field and the one that needs the most specialist training

This program puts goalkeepers through their paces and helps them excel in this tough position. By producing better goalkeepers, teams become harder to beat and pushes outfield players to work harder on beating the goalkeeper.

The FFSW Goalkeeper Academy is designed to improve the key attributes of a goalkeeper and give them belief to be self-confident in goal.

Topics covered in sessions include:

  • Handling
  • Throwing
  • Catching
  • Diving
  • Shot stopping
  • 1v1 saves
  • Penalty saves
  • Setting up defensive walls
  • Positioning
  • Foot work
  • Ball skills - control
  • Kicking

As you see there is a lot that comes with being a goalkeeper. This is why specialised training is required for goalkeepers to improve and develop.

FFSW conducts the Goalkeeper Academy on demand. Often Goal Keepers train within the Training Centre squads and spend some time with the specialised GK coach at the beginning of each session.
